Adopt-a-Cactus
02.04
Nothing so uniquely represents Arizona like the Saguaro cactus (pronounced sah-war-o). Equally as unique as these cacti, is the ability to share this state treasure with family and friends anywhere in the world through the adoptacactus.com program.
Adoptacactus.org was established to help sustain and preserve these statuesque monuments to the Southwest and the protected areas that house them; like Lost Dutchman State Park. At the base of the famed Superstition Mountains, this state park is home to thousands of magnificent cacti and proceeds from this program will directly ensure the park’s sustainability for future generations!
Adopting a Saguaro is easy! Simply choose the type and size of Saguaro you would like to adopt, click “Adopt Me”, fill out the required mailing and payment information, and you will receive an Official Adoptacactus.com Adoption certificate, Picture of your adopted Saguaro with GPS Coordinates, and Thank You letter showing your tax deductible amount from the Friends of Lost Dutchman State Park!

Canyon Vistas Hiking Club
Canyon Vistas Hiking Club shared information from an article he read regarding a new program proposed by Friends of the Lost Dutchman. Joe proposed our hiking club donate $100 from club funds to the Adopt-a-Cactus program to show our support and appreciation of the hiking opportunities in the nearby Lost Dutchman State Park. Hiking club members enthusiastically endorsed Joe’s proposal and voted to adopt two saguaros for $200. At the meeting a hiker, Curt Ehresmann, donated twenty dollars and challenged other club members to match his donation. Curt shared he had triple bypass heart surgery the end of July and was so pleased his recovery allowed him to hike with the group for his sixth season. Other hikers signed a pledge form and the challenge was on. At the end of the meeting $300 had been pledged, allowing the possible adoption of four saguaros. By the end of March $600 had been donated by the Canyon Vistas Hiking Club members. Many of the more than one hundred club members gave a cash donation for the Adopt-a-Cactus fund. Joe contacted the Friends of the Lost Dutchman and shared the interest of the Canyon Vistas hiking club.
On Monday, March 21 Mitzi Rinehart and Micah Goldberg of Friends of the Lost Dutchman attended the hiking club meeting to accept the $700 cash donation for a senior saguaro within the Lost Dutchman park. Coleen Ehresmann on behalf of Joe O’Rourke and the Canyon Vistas Hiking Club members presented the donation to Micah and Mitzi.
The Canyon Vistas Hiking Club would like to challenge hiking clubs from other area senior RV parks and resorts in adopting a cactus and supporting the Lost Dutchman State Park. The park provides opportunities for young and older to enjoy the uniqueness of the Arizona desert within miles of our winter homes. What a great gift a saguaro adoption would be for your children or grandchildr
